The 2010 Range Rover Sport benefits from two powerful new engines that combine refined performance with e_TERRAIN TECHNOLOGIES to deliver improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions: the 245 PS LR-TDV6 3.0 twin-turbo diesel and the 510 PS LR-V8 5.0 supercharged petrol.
- LR-TDV6 and LR-V8 engine technologies
- Engine calibration optimised
- Lower engine idle speeds
- Reduced torque-converter slip
- Higher torque, allowing longer gearing
- Clutched air conditioning pump to reduce parasitic losses (LR-TDV6)
- Intelligent Power System Management (IPSM) including smart regenerative charging
LR-TDV6 3.0-litre diesel with twin sequential turbochargers
- 245 PS and 600 Nm torque
- 29 per cent more power, 36 per cent more torque than the existing 2.7-litre diesel
- Responsive – 500 Nm torque from idle in 500 ms
- Meets EU5 requirements (not due until 2011) – when Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) fitted - with no additional exhaust aftertreatment, such as lean NOx catalysts
- Fuel consumption reduced by nine per cent* compared with 2.7-litre TDV6, delivering 30.7 mpg* (9.2 l/100 km*) on EU combined cycle
- Unique, parallel sequential turbocharger system
- Minimised engine friction and low-energy-consumption fuel pump
- Third-generation common-rail fuel system
- Quiet – low radiated engine noise
- 16,000-mile (26,000 km) service intervals
All-new LR-V8 petrol engine
- All-new LR-V8 5.0-litre supercharged 510 PS engine delivering 625 Nm torque
- Fuel economy improved by 6.2 per cent* to 18.9 mpg* (15 l/100 km*) and CO2 emissions reduced by seven per cent to 353 g/km*
- Central, spray-guided direct injection is highly efficient – industry first
- Conforms to EU5 emissions regulations
- High-efficiency, sixth-generation, twin-vortex supercharger
- Torque-actuated variable camshaft timing on all four cams – industry first
- Camshaft profile switching
- Variable length inlet manifold optimises power and torque
- Reverse cooling improves engine efficiency and speeds cabin warm-up
- Class-leading, low-friction design features
- Lightweight construction uses recycled materials
- 15,000-mile (24,000 km) service intervals

Responsive new transmission
Both the LR-V8 petrol and LR-TDV6 3.0-litre diesel engine on the Range Rover Sport are mated to the revised and super-smooth ZF HP28 six-speed automatic transmission. Its characteristics have been optimised to provide class-leading response, with rapid and refined shifts.
The transmission features an intelligent sport mode, which can sense and adapt transmission characteristics to particular driving styles. In addition, for the first time on the Range Rover Sport, the driver can change gears manually with the option of a steering wheel mounted paddle-shift.
